Sitting Cutie Pattern

The Sitting Cutie pattern is a beginner pattern for a basic doll body/base. It does not (at this time) include details about any of the color changes or extra accessory pieces shown on the model dolls. This is a working pattern, and I will be adding to it over time!

MATERIALS
Hook: 3.75 mm
Yarn: Red Heart medium weight
Other: scissors, yarn needle, safety eyes or embroidery floss and needle for the eyes, poly-fil/fiber-fil, stitch marker

Please note: I have only tested this pattern with medium weight and 3.75 mm hook. You can use any preferred materials, just as long as your gauge is tight enough to keep the stuffing from showing through.

TERMINOLOGY
ch
– chain
sc, st – single crochet, stitch
invdec – invisible decrease
slst – slip stitch
blo – back loops only
* * – repeat until end of row

HEAD/BODY
The head and body are worked as a singular piece starting from the top of the head. You’ll want to stuff the head and add safety eyes (optional) before finishing the neck.

R1: 6sc in Magic Circle, or ch2 and 6sc in second ch from hook (6)
R2: 2sc in in each st around (12)
R3: *1sc in next st, 2sc in next st* (18)
R4: *1sc in next 2 st, 2sc in next st* (24)
R5: *1sc in next 3 st, 2sc in next st* (30)
R6-10(five rows): sc around (30)
R11:  *1sc in next 3 st, invdec over next 2 st* (24)
R12: *1sc in next 2 st, invdec over next 2 st* (18)
1. If you are using safety eyes you’ll want to attach them to the head now. I usually use 10mm eyes, placing them between rows 7 and 8, and about 4 stitches apart.
2. This is where you’ll want to start stuffing the head. You can add more over the next few rounds.
R13: *1sc in next st, invdec over next 2 st* (12)
R14: dec around (6)
R15: *1sc in next 2 st, 2sc in next st* (8)
R16: *1sc in next st, 2sc in next st* (12)
R17: sc around (12)
R18: *1sc in next 2 st, 2sc in next st* (16)
R19: *1sc in next 3, 2sc in next st* (20)
R20-22: sc around (20)
Stuff the upper part of the body
R23: in BLOdec around (10)
Stuff the rest off the body, adding more between decreases in the next round if needed.
R24: invdec around (5)
slst and f/o, leaving a tail. With a yarn needle, weave the bottom closed using the tail.

ARM x2
This starts from the shoulder. You don’t need to stuff the arm, pushing the ends of yarn in should be enough.
R1: 6sc in Magic Circle, or ch2 and 6sc in second ch from hook (6)
R2-3: sc around (6)
R4: *1sc in next st, in dec over next 2 st* (4)
R5-7: sc around (4)
slst and f/o leaving a tail. With a yarn needle, weave the end of the arm closed and pass the needle through the arm and up into the shoulder for attaching to the body.

LEG x2
Starts from the feet – like the arms, the feet don’t need to be stuffed
R1: 6sc in Magic Circle, or ch2 and 6sc in second ch from hook (6)
R2-3: sc around (6)
R4: sc in first 2 st, invdev over next 2 st, sc in next 2 st (5)
R5-7: sc around
slst and f/o leaving a tail

ASSEMBLY: if you used safety eyes, use them as a guide when attaching the arms and legs. Use the leftover tails to sew the arms and legs onto the body.

That’s it! By adding a few color changes to this basic pattern you can add clothes, hair, etc. to your doll.
